Disclosing Specific Information

In specific situations, federal law may authorize the release ofÌýFERPA-protected information without the student's authorization.

ÌýÌýClass Recordings

If a recording includes a student in class and the student is identifiable either by voice or image, then the recording is considered a part of the student’s educational record and is protected by federal law.

ÌýÌýConcerns for Student Behavior, Health & Safety

Federal law allows university faculty or staff to assist whenÌýstudents are perceived to be behaving oddly; generate concerns about the safety of the student or others; or are in a health or safety emergency.

ÌýÌýDisciplinary Information

Federal law allows certain individuals to be notified of a disciplinary caseÌýand/or given access to theÌýstudent's disciplinary information under specific circumstances.

ÌýÌýStudent Recommendations

Federal law limits the type of informationÌýyou're allowed to disclose in aÌýstudent recommendation based on the nature of the recipient and whether the student has providedÌýwritten consent.
