The Division of Public Safety, which includes Police, Operations, Security Services, Threat Assessment, Finance, and Administration, is dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of students, faculty, staff, and visitors on campus. Security Services plays a central role in this mission, providing a blend of technological solutions and human oversight to meet the security needs of our diverse and dynamic community.

Physical Security Systems Technology

CU Boulder is committed to integrating the latest technology into campus security systems. We believe that innovation is essential for adapting to the evolving landscape of campus safety and security. Key areas include:

  • Video Systems: We utilize state-of-the-art video camera systems that provide 24/7 monitoring across the campus. These systems support incident detection, deterrence and investigative efforts, ensuring that our community is as safe and protected as possible.
  • Access Control: Our campus features advanced access control systems that regulate entry to buildings and restricted areas. These systems help us maintain a secure environment while also promoting a sense of safety for all members of the CU Boulder community.
  • Emergency Notification System: In the event of a confirmed, immediate threat to life and safety on campus, campus officials send emergency alerts to students, faculty and staff, providing incident information and safety instructions. Emergency notifications include texts, emails, social media messages onÌý ²¹²Ô»åÌý X accounts (formerly Twitter). In addition, emergency messages are displayed on digital signage throughout campus and timely updates are made to theÌý.
  • Security Monitoring and Response Systems: A comprehensive network of sensors and alarms ensures that potential security threats are detected immediately. Our security teams are trained to respond quickly and effectively, ensuring that appropriate action is taken when necessary.
