Community in the MSE Program at CU Boulder

The mission of the Material Science & Engineering (MSE) Program at the University of Colorado Boulder is to achieve excellence in both education and research, actively developing innovative materials that can tackle critical society issues related to energy, health, and sustainability and positioning itself as a leader in the field of materials science innovation.

We recognize that fostering a community that is interdisciplinary, connected, open and supportive is critical to fulfilling our mission. To this end, the MSE program is committed to building a welcoming community that supports a positive learning and working environment through unbiased and evidence-based practices in education and employment.

We believe sustaining science and engineering requires different perspectives and experiences from students, faculty and staff. As one example, our program uses a holistic graduate application review process where all aspects of a student’s record and potential are considered, including lived experiences, skills, and academic background. We strive to encourage and celebrate all identities through active cultural awareness and are committed to supporting the advancement and retention of all members of the community.ÌýThe Program is committed to routinely reviewing its practices, such as curriculum and program activities, to produce the next generation of leaders in the field of materials science and engineering and provide a path for the program’s continued impact on society.
