Funding for Youth who Experienced Homelessness

Financial aid is available to Colorado resident students who experienced homelessnessÌýany time between theÌýstart of 9th grade and the end of 12th grade. The EmpowerED program was created by the state of Colorado and allows CU Boulder to provide financial aid to cover a student's full cost of attendance.

Amount

Eligible students will have their full cost of attendance covered each school year. The cost of attendance includes tuition and fees, housing, food, books, transportation and personal education-related expenses. Financial aid will be a combination of grants which do not need to be repaid.

Eligibility

  • Colorado resident
  • Identified as a homelessÌýyouth under the Federal McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance ActÌýwhile attending a Colorado high school anytime between the start of 9thÌýand end of 12th grade
  • At least 17 years old, butÌýnot older thanÌý27
  • Degree-seeking first year or continuing undergraduate
    • Cannot be used to pursue second degree of the same type
  • Program covers up to 132 credit hours of coursework
  • Meet Satisfactory Academic Progress each semester

How to Apply

  1. Apply for financial aid each year through the , or the financial aid application for undocumented Colorado studentsÌýand indicate past or current experience of homelessness.
  2. Be admitted to CU Boulder and enroll in coursework.
  3. Complete the .
