Federal transition: Updates, campus resources, insights and more

Shifting to a new federal administration and Congress

In January, the federal government transitioned to new leadership in the White House and in Congress. The transitions in these two branches of government may result in new federal policies, regulations and executive orders, including some with the potential to impact higher education.

CU Boulder leadership together with the university’s federal relations team and legal counsel will be monitoring these transitions and—after carefully assessing new policies, regulations and executive orders for potential impacts to CU Boulder’s academic, research and public service missions—will update the campus community as early and as often as possible.

Preparing for change

Uncertainty about the future can be unsettling, but speculation without facts can lead to misinformation and anxiety.

To better understand and prepare for potential policy changes, the university is gathering guidance from higher education advocacy groups such as the  (AAU), the  (APLU) and the  (ACE).

We will work with the university’s federal government relations team and the university’s office of general counsel in addition to consulting with higher education advocacy groups, peer institutions and academic experts. If changes do occur, we will assess their expected impact on our campus and provide guidance and next steps to students, staff and faculty as soon as possible.

Focus on mission

As CU Boulder assesses the evolving political landscape, the campus community will continue to focus on its public mission of:

  • Providing top-notch education, access and affordability to students from all walks of life
  • Supporting faculty in the pursuit of groundbreaking research and creative work to improve lives
  • And serving the residents of Colorado and the nation
