This week brings to campus a Black History Month celebration, the grand opening of the CU Boulder Surplus Store, a Peace Corps information session, a Chinese Spring Festival carnival and more.

Monday, Jan. 27

  8:30 a.m.–3 p.m.   3300 Walnut Ave., Unit A
Stop by the CU Boulder Surplus Store for second-hand items including office furniture, electronics, sports gear, and one-of-a-kind items at great prices.

Celebrate Chocolate Cake Day! Stop by for a snack on your way to class and learn about different campus organizations.

 

  7–9 p.m.   Club 156 in The Connection
Come down to The Connection for trivia! Teams and individuals are welcome! Free to enter; sign-up starts at 6 p.m. at The Connection front desk. Prizes for top finishers!

Donate a meal swipe to a fellow Buff in need! Help fight food insecurity on campus by participating in Swipe It Forward. Anyone with a meal plan can donate one meal swipe per day. As you check out, tell the cashier you would like to donate. Don’t have a meal plan but still want to help? or register to volunteer.

Think the sun takes a break when it's cold? Think again! High altitude and snow increase the risk of sunburn. Learn how to protect yourself while enjoying the powder and take home some SPF supplies!

Learn more about volunteering and how to gain skills and experience that will help you qualify for Peace Corps service during this virtual info session. There will be time to ask questions too!

  5–7 p.m.   CASE Chancellor’s Hall
Explore the exciting world of startups and entrepreneurship. Attend this event to learn about startup companies and open projects, internships and jobs. Afterward, you can meet with employees at the startups and learn how you can get involved in what they are doing. . 

 

  5:30–8:30 p.m.   History Colorado Center
The Alumni Association and the Center for Inclusion and Social Change invite you to the ForeverBuffs Spotlight event Where is Denver’s Chinatown? at the History Colorado Museum in Denver. This is an opportunity for CU alumni, students and friends to participate in the return of the ForeverBuffs Spotlight event and learn about the history of Denver’s forgotten Chinatown.

Learn the basics of bicycle repair in this workshop at Environmental Center workshop at Community Cycles. Bicycle anatomy, lubricants, tool use and basic maintenance will be covered. Learn how to do basic brake and shifting adjustments as well. CU Boulder students receive a 50% discount. Email bicycle@colorado.edu for your personal discount code.

The mobile food pantry is free and open to CU Boulder students, faculty and staff, and community members of Boulder and Broomfield counties. Attendees will receive up to 30 pounds of food in multiple boxes. Food will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. Registration is required. Review instructions and more information.

Meet other queer and trans grad students, eat some food and enjoy bowling and other games.

Watch an exciting ~30-minute film that follows a faculty member and a grad student as they investigate ice break-up on the Canning River in Alaska's National Arctic Wildlife Refuge. The free screening will be followed by a question and answer session with the researchers and filmmaker.

Grab your Buff OneCard and head over to Fiske Planetarium to enjoy Free Fiske Thursdays! All 7 p.m. shows and star talks are free for CU Boulder students on Thursdays.

Join your fellow art aficionados to create a work of art even the beginning painter can be proud of! Take some time to relax and learn from a pro with all supplies included. This annual event honors CAAAS Day, as proclaimed by Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, marking the beginning of Black History Month. Stop by and enjoy free food, music, dance, poetry and Africana culture.
