With the recent shift in the performance review cycle, many staff have the chance to reexamine our goals and extra time to achieve them.

And with the new year, CU has a wide range of professional development opportunities to help you learn a variety of skills. Examples of some opportunities include:

UndocuAlly Trainings (throughout the semester)

These 2 hour trainings — co-presented by the CISC and our faculty allies — are intended to help campus better support undocumented students and create a more welcoming campus environment. Read the article in the Staff Council newsletter for more information about the trainings, when they are taking place, and to register.

Making Virtual Meetings Inclusive: Exploring Equity Gaps (March)

CU Boulder faculty and staff are invited to join Human »Æ¹ÏÊÓƵ for a training focused on understanding the potential inequities in participating in virtual meetings. The purpose of this one hour seminar is to provide participants with the knowledge and skills for making virtual meetings inclusive. Look for more information on CU HR’s Diversity Learning & Development page.

Ombuds Lunch & Learn Presentations (throughout the semester & on-demand)

Ombuds presentations introduce skills, techniques, and strategies to navigate conflict, improve communication, and sustain relationships.
Dates for upcoming presentations, as well as recordings of previous presentations, can be found on the Ombuds Lunch and Learn webpage.

Additionally, HR’s Organization and Employee Development team is offering workshops to enhance your productivity, communication, DEI commitment, and other skills. Workshops include:

Project Management Essentials: For the Unofficial Project Manager

In-Person: February 15 and 17, from 12:30pm - 4:30pm each day, ARC Building

When a project is poorly navigated and falls short of budget and timeline goals, it can cost more than just money; it can cause irreparable damage to reputation, confidence, and client trust. The answer isn’t just dedicated project managers, but instilling your entire team at every level with project management abilities. For guaranteeing project management success, we’ve studied and learned from the Accredited Project Management Institute (PMI). Distilling their robust processes, we’ve blended their techniques with FranklinCovey’s 30 years of experience and timeless principles, this session aims to equip people with skills necessary for consistent project success.

CliftonStrengths Introduction

Virtual: February 16, 2:00pm - 4:00pm, via zoom

The CliftonStrengthsâ„¢ Introduction seminar provides an opportunity for CU Boulder employees to identify their natural talents by taking the Clifton StrengthsFinder assessment. During this interactive workshop participants will learn to develop their talents into strengths, allowing participants to continue career development while enhancing working relationships.

Crucial Accountability

Virtual: February 22nd, 23rd, and 24th, from 9:00am - 11:00am each day, via zoom

Building on the skills taught in Crucial Conversations, Crucial Accountability teaches a step-by-step process for identifying and resolving performance gaps, strengthening accountability, eliminating inconsistency, and reducing resentment. This course teaches:

  • Performance accountability - Participants learn how to talk about expectations in a way that yields two-way accountability and furthers progress toward goals.
  • How to accelerate problem solving - Consistent application of these skills leads to faster problem solving, decision-making, and conflict resolution.
  • How to improve relationships & productivity - When issues are resolved and focus is restored, productivity increases, relationships are strengthened, and high-performance cultures are formed.

Leading Hybrid Teams

Virtual: February 22nd, 1:00pm - 3:00pm, via zoom

This course provides an introduction to the mindsets and skills necessary for managers and supervisors to successfully transition to leading in a hybrid environment. Research shows that while the foundational principles of leadership have not changed, the application of these principles must be modified to better suit the hybrid environment. This course will connect leaders with the most recent research and practices that enable high levels of employee engagement and workplace productivity.

Allyship: Advancing Diversity and Inclusion

Virtual: February 23rd, from 2:00pm - 3:30pm, via zoom

Are you interested in becoming an ally? You can start by learning the three basic steps to defining your allyship journey. As our society continues to be faced with a number of social crises, many people desire to take the necessary steps to be an ally for those most impacted by injustice and bias. You can learn how to define and leverage your allyship, and walk away with a template to help guide your learning and steps for action.

Leading at the Speed of Trust

Virtual: February 28th, March 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, from 2:00pm - 4:00pm each day, via zoom

Trust is not merely a soft, social virtue; rather, trust is a pragmatic, hard-edged, economic, and actionable asset that you can create. There is a compelling business case for trust. Teams and organizations that operate with high trust significantly out-perform teams and organizations with low trust. This has been proven in dozens of studies, across a multitude of industries and sectors. The Speed of Trust Practice helps organizations better manage change and create high-performing teams that are agile, collaborative, innovative, and engaged.
