Last week the Volunteer Resource Center (VRC), with the support of 13 student and staff volunteers, hosted a mobile food pantry that distributed over 8,000 pounds of food (provided by ) in just 2 hours. It is an important reminder that food insecurity is a very real issue facing the CU Boulder community, with a reporting approximately 41% of college students struggle to obtain nutritionally adequate and safe food at some point in their academic career. For staff and faculty, this can also be a struggle.

The VRC will be hosting another free mobile food pantry on Thursday, April 21st, 2022 from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. CU Boulder staff, faculty, students and community members of Boulder and Broomfield counties are invited to attend.

Attendees will receive up to 30 pounds of food, including dairy, meat and fresh produce, and are encouraged to bring reusable bags as a way to carry food easily. Food will be on a first-come, first-served basis. 

While drive-through will not be available at this pantry, free parking will be available at the . There will be a volunteer at the entrance of the garage to provide you with instructions.

During the month of March, CU Boulder Staff Council is proud to partner with Runners Roost to support three worthy causes to bring shoes, coats and food to people in need. And when you donate, you will receive a 15% discount on your in-store purchase.

These donations will benefit , , and the Buff Pantry. And items donated to the Buff Pantry will be directed to the on-campus food pantry directly benefiting students.

What can I donate?

• Shoes - Any condition
• Coats - Gently Used, Clean
• Food - Non-perishable food items. Most needed items include:
  • Oatmeal
  • Peanut butter & jelly
  • Spices
  • Dish & laundry soap
  • Personal care items
  • Drinks such as tea and coffee​

While this Drive lasts the entire month of March, we encourage you to donate as soon as possible so that these donations can get to those in need sooner rather than later.

“CU Blood Drive Week” is moving off campus to Vitalant’s and donation centers August 22 – September 6.  All donors are encouraged to make an appointment and must be feeling well and healthy at the time of their donation.  Please check the latest requirements and safety precautions at .  Masks/face coverings are required.

Donors who send a photo of themselves wearing CU-logoed apparel during their donation can enter to win one of four $50 Amazon gift cards*. To enter the drawing, please send your CU pride blood donation photo to staffcouncil@colorado.edu by September 7.

As an additional donor benefit, Vitalant is the first national blood collector to test all successful (complete) blood donations for antibodies to SARS-CoV-2, the coronavirus that causes COVID-19.

To supplement the campus supply of reusable cloth masks for critical-services employees during this time of high demand, the Volunteer Resource Center is seeking volunteers to create 1,000-plus masks. Mission of OUR Center:
OUR Center’s mission is to help people move toward self-sufficiency by unifying community resources.  We fulfill our mission by providing emergency services to help our participants through short-term financial crises and via case management for program participants needing longer-term assistance.  The organization serves anyone in need in the St. Vrain Valley School District area of Colorado.
 
Services:
OUR Center is an award-winning center that offers a variety of services and support to those in need. Their efforts go beyond meals and accessible food options but dive deeper into additional resources that includes mental health support, rent and utility assistance, computer literacy, child care and school readiness programs, as well as efforts related to public benefits and energy efficiency training.
 
Staff Council’s Partnership with OUR Center:
The donations we are providing for this food drive will help to contribute to the post-holiday efforts to continue running the OUR Community Market as well as the day to day meals they offer to their community. CU Boulder's Staff Council is partnering with Longmont's for a food drive on the Boulder campus, concurrent with the February campus blood drive. Donation items can be dropped off February 4 - 6, 2020 between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. at the CU Rec Center, Ice Rink Overlook Room.

Bring at least six donation items and receive two free tickets to CU Buffs Women's Basketball game versus Arizona State on Friday, February 21, 2020 @ 7:00 p.m. Only two tickets per person, but you are welcome to bring more donation items.

Some of the items most needed include:

• Pasta
• Canned fruits & vegetables
• Infant formula
• Protein items (i.e. peanut butter, canned meat such as tuna, chicken & ham)
• Personal Care Items/Toiletries (household and travel size)
