Garrett Botsch

Garrett Botsch is a multimedia artist based in Dallas, Texas, whose practices range from art direction, portrait photography, live performance, to sound art. He is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Media Production from the University of Colorado Boulder, working mainly to explore the definition of truth as it relates to identity and perception through performance-based media art. Starting with theoretical questions around religion, gender, and liminality, his work aims to subject viewers to a specific, often uncanny sensation, based on the complexity of the modern queer experience and his general fascination with the human emotional response.

The Rite of 1000 Ladybugs exemplifies the individuality of religion and spirituality through a pseudo-ritual inspired by lineal connection and the symbolic nature of the Ladybug.Through the dynamic ritual and soundscape, The entity being summoned is captured on 12-minute single channel video as it responds in contemporary/modern dance technique to the narrating summoner. Spiritual desperation prods the narrator through a dreadful yet heavenly ritual aimed to bring forth protection by way of the entity.Ìý
