As a storyteller and media maker at the University of Colorado Boulder's College of Media, Communication, and Information (CMCI), Bergen Backes is passionate about videography and video editing. Pursuing a degree in Media Production with a concentrated focus on documentary production, complemented by a minor in Journalism, she has cultivated her skills over seven years, mastering Adobe Creative Cloud to create captivating visual narratives. She has developed various media projects, including a documentary and photo series covering religions in ten different countries and social media content for various CU Boulder departments.
Ken Conder grew up during a time that is often left out of the history books. This film documents the history of the Colorado coal mines and the personal stories and experiences of Conder's life. Growing up in the coal mining camps may have been difficult, but Conder looks back on his childhood with the fondest of memories. “Looks Different” discusses how the coal mines operated, the way workers were treated, the foundation of the United Mine Workers Union, and the Ludlow Massacre. Conder explores three different locations in Southern Colorado that once housed different coal mines and their adjoining camps. Now, all that is left is the ruins of the places he once called home.
