Public lecture by Laura Kasinof

Location: 

Laura Kasinof is a freelance journalist, writer and researcher whose work focuses on the Middle East. She worked for years in Yemen, and in 2011 covered the anti-government protests in that country for the New York Times. She has written a book about the experience titled, “Don’t Be Afraid of the Bullets: an Accidental War Correspondent in Yemen,” which is forthcoming from Arcade. She has reported from Egypt, the Republic of Georgia and the United States.

The freelance journalist will discuss her forthcoming book. "Don’t Be Afraid of the Bullets: an Accidental War Correspondent in Yemen" on Wednesday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. in Humanities 250.

Drawing on her knowledge of Russian and Western media, Julia Ioffe will discuss how the ongoing conflict in that region is playing out in an increasingly restricted media environment. 

Ioffe is a senior editor at The New Republic. Prior to joining the magazine in 2012, she spent three years reporting from Russia for major international publications.

 

This event is made possible with the support of the Russian Studies program, Germanic and Slavic Languages and Literatures, the History Department, CMCI, Political Science, the program in Jewish Studies and the International Affairs program.
