Women, Gender Studies Purchases Laptops, Software with ASSETT Development Award
CU Boulder Women andÌýGender Studies students tell women's storiesÌýwith equipment purchased through ASSETT Development Awards.Ìý AssociateÌýProfessor Celeste Montoya's Spring 2015Ìýsenior colloquium class created the Feminists of the Front Range project.ÌýÌýMontoya's students recorded interviews with self-identified feminists in the Boulder area.ÌýÌýMontoya said that students, "...Ìýused tape recorders and cameras from previous ASSETT awards the Women & Gender Studies Program has applied for."Ìý The studentsÌýused Photoshop to formatÌýphotographs and quotations from the people with whom they spoke onto posters.
The students posted the posters around campus.Ìý The studentsÌýalso created photo books that areÌýon display at the Hazel Gates Woodruff Cottage.Ìý Many of the interviewees' profiles areÌýincluded on the Colloquium'sÌýFacebook page, .
Montoya said that through the Feminists of the Front Range project, her students learned about,Ìý"... how to best represent people in an ethical way," considering how personalÌýconversations about feminism can be.ÌýÌýMontoya said the ASSETT Development Award was an, "... amazingÌýresourceÌýfor us to engage in more interactiveÌýteachingÌýprojects."
Montoya alsoÌýreceived an ASSETT Development Award last year with which she purchased laptops and qualitative research software.Ìý Montoya said that her students canÌýtrain in research methods and learn how to code interview data withÌýthe software.
